What did you learn about yourself or the poem you chose to interpret during Poetry Out Loud?

By getting up and reading my poem outloud infront of the whole class, I learned that I cannot speak infront of people very well at all. I get so nervous, start to shake and choke up. I know for sure that I could not speak publically for a living.

I learned that my poem is about love. No matter how far away your soulmate is they'll love you. My poem also described their love towards their soulmate.

I can understand your experience of this, but did you get what your poem ment? Also wouldn't you already know if you could stand in front of people to talk. I mean you must have tryed it before.

Robbie,
I think there are a lot of choices that teenagers would like on the site. It just takes awhile to sift through. I wish you could choose your own poems from the web too, but Poetry Out Loud requires that the poems be from their anthology.

I learned that i get very nervous when it comes to speaking in front of a group of my peers. I also learned that for being as nervous as I was, I did very well with speaking clearly and standing still. I understood my poem tothe best of my ability.

When I had to read my poem in front of the class I learned that I could speak in front of my peers with minimal hesitation. Other than that it was very simple. My poem was fairly easy but it had its challenges with its vocabulary. I did get the meaning of my poem and it is very inspiring. The main challenge I faced was how fast to say my poem, I said it a little faster than I was supposed to and that deducted some points on my overall grade. I would have rather read it in front of people I don’t know though because then I would feel a little more comfortable.

When I had to read my poem I was a little nervous. I would rather just have to stand in front of a group of people that I did not know and it was dark so I couldn't see them. I think that would make me the most comfortable

I learned about how it is to interpret someone else's view and life story and memorize his work of literature.

I learned that I have a pretty good memory and that I don't really have a problem talking in front of people or a crowd.
Kind of what Colby said.

I learned that when i went up in front of everyone to recite my poem, I learned that its not something you can wing at. You need to study your stuff and basically be the poem. You can't just go up there and freeze.

I think poety out loud was a good experience. I made you fasce your fears if you have issues with public speaking. Overall it was good.

I learned that I have a hard time learning long poems, and when it comes to speaking in front of the whole class i get really, really nervous. I also learned that you should pick a poem that means something to you.

I agree with Antonioli1. It was a very easy task. I only struggled with the emphasis on words and physical movements. Also, Antonioli1 is also Kyle's gamertag on XBOX Live.

Chance, I'm glad you found it to be an easy task. However, do you really think Kyle wanted his gamertag posted? Maybe you should edit your post?

Luke, I agree that the atmosphere makes a huge difference. Public speaking isn't always easy. When you add oral interpretation to it (especially poetry) some people "freeze up". I'm glad you didn't!
